Due to extremely cold temperatures driving unusually high energy demand, Duke Energy is asking all Carolinas customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use from 4-10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.

Duke Energy is bracing for a winter storm that’s expected to bring widespread snow and gusty winds to portions of the Carolinas this weekend, along with continued frigid temperatures through early next week. The company is asking customers to take steps now to stay safe as conditions worsen.

Floridians can expect the arrival of the coldest air in the state in just under a decade this weekend – potentially 20-25 degrees below the average temperature for this time of year. As energy use rises, Duke Energy encourages customers to take advantage of easy-to-join programs and simple solutions to maximize savings on their bills.

With the Carolinas experiencing an unusually long period of freezing weather and preparing for more, including possible accumulation of snow in some areas, heating systems are working harder. To help customers manage their energy usage and costs during these extended cold temperatures, Piedmont Natural Gas reminds customers about tips, resources and assistance programs.

Prolonged below-normal temperatures are pushing home energy use higher across the Carolinas – and higher use can mean higher bills. Duke Energy is sharing practical steps and flexible options to help customers manage costs during this cold stretch.

Duke Energy Florida recently hosted its Neighborhood Energy Saver Program in North Greenwood. While over 1,400 local customers are eligible to participate, approximately 75 attended the event, held at the North Greenwood Recreation Center, to learn how they can receive a free walkthrough energy assessment of their homes and help lower their monthly electricity bills.

Crews are repairing damaged equipment and restoring service to customers across the Carolinas after Winter Storm Fern – and the company is offering simple ways for those with power to manage energy use as cold weather lingers.
