In 2025, Duke Energy Florida achieved the lowest average outage duration per customer in more than two decades. At approximately 64 minutes, this record metric – which excludes outage time caused by significant events like named storms – can be attributed, largely, to year-round grid hardening efforts across the state.

Floridians will likely see higher power bills after last week’s cold snap, but Duke Energy is here to help its customers with bill-payment resources and important fraud prevention information.

Duke Energy Florida has launched an energy-saving pilot project in the Hunter’s Creek neighborhood of Orlando. As part of the initiative, battery energy storage systems (BESS) have been installed in more than 75 participating single-family homes to help manage energy use and support the electric grid during high-demand periods.

Out of 2 million customers, more than 1.7 million Duke Energy Florida customers now benefit from self-healing technology. That’s 82% of our customers and more than double the number of customers who were served with the technology in 2020.

Customers’ actions helped lessen strain on the electric grid and supported reliable service during one of the coldest mornings of the season.

As Florida continues to experience the coldest air in the state since 2018, Duke Energy is asking all customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use from 5 to 9 a.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.

Floridians can expect the arrival of the coldest air in the state in just under a decade this weekend – potentially 20-25 degrees below the average temperature for this time of year. As energy use rises, Duke Energy encourages customers to take advantage of easy-to-join programs and simple solutions to maximize savings on their bills.

Duke Energy Florida recently hosted its Neighborhood Energy Saver Program in North Greenwood. While over 1,400 local customers are eligible to participate, approximately 75 attended the event, held at the North Greenwood Recreation Center, to learn how they can receive a free walkthrough energy assessment of their homes and help lower their monthly electricity bills.
