Duke Energy Florida announced that the storm cost recovery charge – the result of costs associated with the company’s approximately $1.1 billion response to hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton – will be removed from customers’ bills a month earlier than originally scheduled.

Beginning in January, Duke Energy will implement changes to customer bills that reflect investments made to recover from the historic damage from Hurricane Helene, strengthen the grid against storms and outages, maintain and upgrade its power generating fleet, and serve a growing customer base while supporting economic growth in South Carolina.

Throughout 2025, Duke Energy Florida teams have completed many targeted investments designed to boost energy reliability, reduce customer rates and expand capacity to meet growing energy demands.

Duke Energy today filed requests with the North Carolina Utilities Commission for revised rates at Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress, its two utilities in the state.

Today, the Florida Public Service Commission approved Duke Energy Florida’s request to lower customer bills beginning in March 2026, and as a result, residential customers can anticipate an approximately $44 decrease for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity they use when compared to February 2026.
