Duke Energy’s Florida customers will see lower electric bills following the Florida Public Service Commission’s approval of the company's request to reduce fuel charges on customer bills.

Duke Energy Progress is seeking to reduce customer bills to account for the cost of fuel used to generate electricity for South Carolina homes and businesses. If approved by the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSCSC), the average monthly residential bill would decrease by 4.1% beginning Aug. 1.

Duke Energy Progress customers in South Carolina will save $35 million in repair costs from a series of historic storms from 2014 through 2022 thanks to innovative legislation allowing the company to securitize the costs through the sale of lower interest rate bonds.

Today, Duke Energy Florida filed for new base rates with the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC). The company stated it would also reduce rates by filing a fuel mid-course adjustment. Additionally, the company requested approval of new cost-effective energy efficiency goals and programs, which will help customers save on energy bills.

Following significant infrastructure investments in recent years to support the ongoing reliability, safety and growth of its system, Piedmont Natural Gas today filed a request with the North Carolina Utilities Commission to raise its base rates. If approved, Piedmont’s requested rate adjustment would become effective in November 2024.
