As Florida continues to experience the coldest air in the state since 2018, Duke Energy is asking all customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use from 5 to 9 a.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.

Due to extremely cold temperatures driving unusually high energy demand, Duke Energy is asking all Carolinas customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use from 4-10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.

Floridians can expect the arrival of the coldest air in the state in just under a decade this weekend – potentially 20-25 degrees below the average temperature for this time of year. With the Carolinas experiencing an unusually long period of freezing weather and preparing for more, including possible accumulation of snow in some areas, heating systems are working harder.
