As temperatures drop across the Southeast this weekend and into next week, causing heating systems to work harder and use more energy, Piedmont Natural Gas offers tips, resources and assistance programs to help customers stay comfortable while managing seasonal energy bills.

Duke Energy has brought on line a 50-megawatt, four-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) at its former Allen coal plant on Lake Wylie, serving customers in North Carolina and South Carolina, and has unveiled plans for additional battery storage and new jobs at the Gaston County site.

Beginning in January, Duke Energy will implement changes to customer bills that reflect investments made to recover from the historic damage from Hurricane Helene, strengthen the grid against storms and outages, maintain and upgrade its power generating fleet, and serve a growing customer base while supporting economic growth in South Carolina.

Duke Energy announced today its submission of an early site permit (ESP) application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a site near the Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, N.C., culminating two years of work.

Through the Share the Light Fund®, Duke Energy, its Foundation, customers and employees have contributed more than $670,000 in South Carolina to community agencies this year alone – helping neighbors keep their homes warm and powered when it matters most.

Duke Energy and Duke Energy Foundation are awarding $125,000 in microgrants to South Carolina nonprofits that will help bolster existing programs that help make the necessary repairs that enable households to become eligible for energy efficiency improvements and long-term cost savings.

On Giving Tuesday, Duke Energy and Duke Energy Foundation wrap up a monthlong initiative to fight hunger across South Carolina by announcing nearly $275,000 in surprise microgrants and contributions to community organizations across the state. The announcement wraps up a monthlong campaign that provided more than $600,000 to critical community partners that do this incredible work.
