To celebrate Black History Month, Duke Energy’s South Carolina employees have awarded $50,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations whose focus is uplifting, educating and assisting local communities.

Today, Duke Energy Florida is celebrating Engineers Week – recognized as Sunday, Feb. 16, through Saturday, Feb. 22 – by highlighting the work of power grid dispatchers and the importance of training new engineers and technical workers to serve as the “eyes in the sky” of the grid that delivers power to more than 2 million customers across the company’s 35-county service territory.

Duke Energy is committed to serving its customers and communities and offers programs and resources to help customers who may be experiencing trouble paying utility expenses due to financial hardships.

Duke Energy Florida is sharing various resources to help customers manage their increased energy usage in January, when extreme winter weather swept across the state, which may have resulted in some receiving higher-than-average electric bills.

Duke Energy is providing $200,000 in grants to South Carolina organizations that help the state’s aging population with services and support, particularly for seniors with income challenges. The funds will be used to help these organizations with their infrastructure to continue expanding their services.

Following colder-than-usual winter weather in the Sunshine State, Duke Energy Florida is encouraging customers to complete a free Home Energy Check (for residential customers) or Business Energy Check (for commercial customers), allowing them to reevaluate their energy goals and take advantage of available rebate programs that can save them money in the short term and continue reducing their electric bills for years to come.

Duke Energy Florida and Coastal Conservation Association Florida (CCA Florida) announced the organizations signed a joint agreement to continue efforts to protect the state’s environmental resources.

Duke Energy crews and grid operators successfully managed record-breaking power usage while generating and delivering reliable service to customers during an extended period of sustained cold temperatures.

With prolonged freezing temperatures, Duke Energy continues executing a detailed plan to manage the power grid as customer demand increases.
